For centuries, traditional costumes have reflected the essence of Alpine culture, influenced by the landscape, craftsmanship and a profound sense of community. What was once sturdy everyday attire for farmers and artisans has, over the generations, become a proud emblem of Bavarian identity.

A distinctive style emerged from handwoven and hand-dyed linen, cotton and wool: colours, embroidery and silhouettes that tell stories of origin, community and the joy of life.

Although I was born in Cologne, I took my first true breaths in the Chiemgau region of Upper Bavaria – and that's where I was baptised: wearing a dirndl! (I was five – I had been forgotten; a broken farmhouse had to be made liveable first.)

My accent never turned Bavarian (despite serious encouragement), but my heart certainly did!

Over the years, my desire to one day create a traditional costume collection grew stronger, especially as social media filled with ever more 'glammed-up' dirndls that distorted the true spirit of Tracht. Cultural appropriation is one thing. Cultural derailment is another.

With our first collection, Mindful Tradition No. 01 – available from April 2026 – we reconnect with the richness of Bavarian origins, translating them mindfully into the present with great respect and a wink. Classic silhouettes, natural materials and authentic detailing come together in a contemporary homage to Bavarian heritage.

It is a tribute to history and a statement for all who wear Tracht for what it truly represents.
